If you're familiar with HubSpot Academy, you will likely have seen Kevin Dunn's face on many of the Academy videos. I was lucky enough to chat to Kevin and record and episode for the popular Agency Unfiltered podcast recently, about one of my favourite topics.
Agency Unfiltered is a weekly podcast that features interviews with agency owners around agency operations and agency growth, the podcast is popular with HubSpot partners and marketing agency owners alike and has a global audience.
As a long-time HubSpot Academy student, I have always been impressed with the quality of the learning resources that it offers and have watched many a training video with Kevin hosted on the Academy. As a self-confessed HubSpot nerd and regular listener of the Agency Unfiltered podcast, I was delighted when Kevin reached out with an invite to appear as a guest.
We covered a wide range of the topics including:
- The history of HubGem and the path that led our team towards the vertical specialisation and niche we're anchored to today.
- The benefits of niching for our team, our clients, and for the relationships we've cultivated within HubSpot’s sales organization.
- The risk partners face when making the decision to niche and the important considerations once the decision is made—like hiring and training employees, working within a revised Total Addressable Market (TAM), handling prospects not tied to our niche, and redesigning our org's go-to-market strategies.
- My perspective on the differences between simply “picking a niche” and establishing “deep niche alignment” — and how this manifests for HubGem.
- And for the education sector specifically, we wrap with how we approach HubSpot configuration for an industry that doesn’t have a traditional “sales” function you'd envision adopting HubSpot—and I shared some of the cool things I've been able to build and implement for our clients.
If you are interested in HubGem's journey, in growing a successful business in a dedicated niche, or are curious about how HubSpot meets the needs of our wonderful customers across the education space, you can check out the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and anywhere else you like to listen to podcasts.
