Recently, Gemma and I had the pleasure of attending the Lincoln College Annual Awards Ceremony at the stunning Drill Hall, a truly memorable evening that celebrated resilience, achievement, and the power of education within our local community.
As one of the proud sponsors of the event, it was especially meaningful for us to be there. Gemma, who spent part of her career at Lincoln College, has a deep connection to the institution, and we’ve been fortunate to welcome apprentices from the college into our own team over the years. Supporting the development of local talent and giving back to the community is something we care deeply about at HubGem, so it felt like a natural partnership.
The evening brought together over 200 people - students, parents, educators, and local business leaders, for a three-course meal, live entertainment, and most importantly, the celebration of some truly inspiring young people. The awards recognised students who have shown remarkable determination in the face of adversity. We heard powerful stories of personal challenge, including students overcoming medical issues, navigating bereavement, recovering from serious accidents, and living with learning difficulties. Their strength, resilience, and commitment to their studies left us feeling humbled and inspired.
We were also treated to exceptional entertainment from the college’s performing arts students, who brought energy and joy to the stage. One of the evening’s standout moments was the keynote address from a former Lincoln College student - now Vice President of Gas Services at Siemens. His story was a moving testament to the long-term impact of education, hard work, and ambition. Hearing how his journey began in the very same college as the award winners offered a powerful message of hope and possibility to everyone in the room.
At HubGem, we believe in nurturing potential, celebrating growth, and showing up for the communities we’re part of. Events like this reinforce the importance of partnership between businesses and education providers - and remind us of the powerful impact we can have when we invest in young people’s futures. We’re incredibly proud to have played a small part in such a special evening, and we look forward to continuing to support Lincoln College and their brilliant students in the years to come.
